This film was previewed by the Ukrainian Photo and Cinema Administration [VUFKU] in the autumn of 1928. It had its first public showings in Kiev on 8 January and Moscow on 9 April 1929. Unfortunately the film was quickly put aside and forgotten in the Soviet Union but did manage to gain some form of critical acclaim in Berlin, Paris and London. Although, during its time, Vertov's Man With a Movie Camera was not considered a huge success as one would understand the term to mean in todays time, it has become one of the most celebrated films in the history of the documentary tradition and has gained a wide following. |
