This book cover was produce on green leather
and embossed in gold, and is the cover for the entire Red Letter Prose Series. This
design is central to the book cover and its busy design is juxtaposed on the empty plain
colour of the surrounding leather. This motif shows varying thickness' of of line
and gold area thickness. This also shows the juxtapositioning of the gold
linear designs against green and also green details on the gold background. The use here of flowing lines in influenced by Art Nouveau and the use of the rectilinear elements shows the influence of the Glasgow Style. The use of the rose and leaf motif was often used by Talwin Morris and the art of the Glasgow Four and was said to represent the concepts of birth and growth. |
